Section 5: Get meeting
Organizing accessible meetings
Meeting planning
Identify purpose
First, you will need to decide what kind of gathering you want to hold and what the purpose of the gathering will be.
- Is it information gathering?
- Sharing about a specific issue?
- Mobilizing for a targeted action (e.g. advocacy around a local law or barrier)?
- Or something else?

Questions to ask yourself
- What is the topic you want to talk about?
- Is the topic broad – such as discussing barriers to community living for the disability community?
- Or narrow – such as informing the community about a new local ordinance that will make changes to sidewalk access?
- Why are you having this meeting? What would a successful outcome be?
- Having a lot of attendees?
- People feeling their voices were heard?
- Getting a number of people to sign up to action alerts on an issue?
